Flight attendant warns travellers to 'never ever' use a certain part of plane

When travelling on a plane you should "never, ever, ever, ever use or put anything" in a certain part of the seat, according to one flight attendant.

The attendant shared their advice as well as some disturbing secrets that every passenger ought to know by taking the forum platform Reddit. Going by the name HausofDarling, the user explained that seat pockets on a commercial aeroplane should be avoided at all costs, despite it being tempting to unload your belongings and get comfy ahead of your journey.

It was suggested that passengers think twice before placing their phones, books or snacks in the compartments, with the attendant explaining: "I always recommend you never, ever, ever, ever use or put anything in the seat pocket. They are cleared of rubbish but are never 'cleaned'.

"I have pulled out and seen all sorts been pulled out from there. Dirty tissues, sick bags, knickers, socks, gum, half sucked sweets, apple cores, and then next flight you go and put your phone, laptop or iPad in there", the Daily Express reports.

The claim was backed up by another anonymous crew member who details some of the worst items they had come across in the pockets during their career.

"I once discovered vomit outside of the paper bag which spilled through the seat pocket. It was absolutely awful, but what can you do?", they said.

It is not the first time travellers have been issued advice when it comes to plane journeys, with another crew member recently stating that shorts should never be worn on a commercial jet.

Flight attendant Tommy Cimato said that wearing shorts increases your exposure to bacteria on board.

He explained: "Do not fall asleep or lean your head on the window. You are not the only one that has done that and you don't know how many people or children have wiped their hands or other things all over the window.

"It's the same thing as the window, you never know how clean it's going to be, so if you have pants, you're going to have less germs."

Wearing trousers can help passengers avoid direct contract with the seat, therefore providing more protection against germs on the plane.

However, since skin is pretty good at knocking back the entry of bacteria into our systems, problems really only occur if you somehow transfer the invisible dirt into your mouth.

Keeping your hands clean is key, with another piece of advice urging travellers to avoid flushing the loo with their hands onboard as the bathroom is considered one of the dirtiest sports on the aircraft.

The cabin crew member added: "Do not ever touch the flush button with your bare hands. It's honestly just super unsanitary and pretty gross, so when you flush, use a napkin or tissue that's in the lavatory."
