Thankfully, experts often share tricks for making the whole process easier.
From using the 'folding' method for wrinkle-free clothes to using packing cubes to fit everything in your suitcase, there's lots of advice out there.
But a flight attendant has shared what could just be the most important tip of all.

The regular-flyer shared the trick because passports are often left inside safes in hotel rooms. Luckily, she has an easy solution.
"My top tip is to keep one of your shoes you plan to wear on your journey home in the safe," she told the publication.
She explained: "If you do this, you'll never leave the hotel room without checking the safe ever again...as long as you don’t forget where you put your shoe, of course!"
The method can easily be adapted if your accommodation doesn't have a safe - just make sure to leave an important piece of luggage next to your passport.
Equally, you can store your passport with other valuables at home, if you're worried it won't make it into your suitcase in the first place.
Just be sure to pick something you can't leave without, otherwise you might end up two items down.
