Flight attendant's stark warning to always throw water bottle under hotel bed

A cabin crew member has revealed why you should always throw a water bottle under the bed when in a hotel room as it can act as protection.

Flight attendants have plenty of experience travelling the world and staying in countless hotels. Over time, they're able to pick up valuable safety tips and tricks and pass them on to holidaymakers, helping to put their minds at ease.

And one travel whizz Esther, who works for KLM, says that the quick water bottle trick is a good way to check that there aren't any intruders hiding in your hotel room.

The Mirror reports that the Dutch flight attendant posted a video to TikTok urging hotel guests "always" throw a bottle of water under the bed when first entering a hotel room, to "check that no one is under the bed without looking".

If the bottle "doesn't come out of the other side", then you might want to get a member of staff or fellow traveller to investigate the situation with you in case of an intruder.

But if it comes out the other side of the bed like normal, then you can relax.

Esther is just one of many flight attendants who have shared their travel safety tips with holidaymakers on social media.

Demi Bonita, from Spain, says there's another simple thing you can do to check nobody has been in your hotel room.

She suggested to her TikTok followers: "Put the 'do not disturb card' between the door, so you can notice if someone has been in your room," she advised.

That way, if the door has been opened, the card will fall to the floor and confirm that someone may have been in.

It's not just flight attendants who can offer their hotel expertise.

One hotel housekeeper recently issued a stark warning against using a certain pieces of equipment in hotel rooms due to how unhygienic they are.

Tara Bee posted a TikTok video urging holidaymakers to stay away from the glassware, coffee pot and kettle - unless you're giving them a good wash with detergent first.
