Flight attendant reveals how to tell if someone’s been in your hotel room

A flight attendant has explained how you can tell whether somebody has been in your hotel room.

Demi Bonita, from Spain, regularly travels because of her job, so she knows a thing or two about hotel stays.

While hotel staff will often come into your room to strip the beds or tidy up, Demi revealed that there are ways to check if someone's been in your room - especially if you've requested to skip a day's room service, or left the privacy notice on your door.

Demi, who shares travel tips with her 70,000 followers on TikTok, recently explained what she does to keep track of entry into her hotel rooms.

"Put the 'do not disturb card' between the door, so you can notice if someone has been in your room," she advised.

Wearing her flight attendant uniform, she then exhibits the technique of sliding the pass between the door and wall before closing it.

"One hour later, no one has been here," she added after leaving and then returning to the room.

When it comes to making sure you feel as secure as possible when in a hotel room - something that may be all the more important if travelling alone - utilising the safe can help.

In fact, putting a shoe in your safe could actually save you a lot of grief further down the line according to KLM crew member Esther, especially if you're prone to forgetting your valuables.

"Worried about forgetting something from your locker? Put your heel or shoe in it and you won't forget it!" she said.

If you're not carrying more than one pair of shoes, place whatever item they think you wouldn't leave without in the safe, such as your jacket or coat.

Another tip that Esther offered involves using a clothes hanger to clip the hotel curtains together at night, so you're not woken up by the bright light in the morning.

This is a very useful way to protect the clothes from dirty kicks when you pack the suitcase again, especially if you don't have any plastic bags with you.

The same technique can also be used to cover the remote control, which can be "very dirty" in hotel rooms, she claims.

Esther also suggested using "your USB cable to charge your devices in the TV" if you don't have a world travel plug or if the one you have doesn't work.

It's a clever trick, as when it comes to packing up your items you'll notice a missing shoe, and then that will jolt your memory to check the safe, and all of its contents.
