Flight attendant debunks one 'fake' airplane travel hack you should avoid

When travelling, passengers have dozens of clever hacks to make their trip cheaper and more comfortable.

And while these tips and tricks are usually handy to keep in mind, there are some that might be a waste of your time according to an airline expert.

Brodie Capron, who posts on TikTok as @brodie.capron, is a flight attendant for Virgin and dispelled one of the hacks that may be better avoided.

As reported by the Mirror, Brodie lifted the lid on a common misconception - that plane water is dirty or unhygienic. She says that this is not the case on the airline where she works.

She explained: "Is the water safe to drink? Yes, it is. It's filtered, and it's clean."

Brodie also said that the reason window shades need to be up when the plane is taking off is that passengers can see the engines, and flight attendants can't. She said: "You've got to let us know if something happens."

The cabin crew member also clarified that waste from the toilets onboard does not just "go into the sky" - it goes into a sewage tank that is emptied at the end of the flight.

Sharing further tricks of the trade, she added: "Can the doors be open mid-flight? Look, unless you have superhuman strength, no."

Brodie also confirmed that the reason your carry-on luggage has to be a certain weight or below is due to the fact the overhead lockers "can only hold so much weight."

And if you were wondering whether you get more drunk in an aircraft, the answer is yes, because of the "lower oxygen percentage in the air, the effects of alcohol are greater" according to Brodie.

With more than 500,000 views, TikTok users clearly took note of the travel-aces advice, with one saying: "You have calmed my intrusive thoughts about opening the plane door while flying."

Another added: "Very interesting, some of what you said is common sense I thought, but all good to know. Thanks!"
