‘Flexible apprenticeships’ to help people earn and learn unveiled

The Government has announced new “flexi apprenticeships”, saying they will enable people to earn money while they learn.

Up to 1,500 places will be created under a £5 million scheme to mark National Apprenticeship Week.

Apprentices will complete short placements in sectors including construction and health.

Under the scheme, agencies will be able to place apprentices on projects in different companies.

Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi said: “Gone are the days when apprenticeships are restricted by a one-size-fits-all approach.

“Through our dynamic post-16 reforms, we are investing directly in people, delivering prestigious and flexible apprenticeships which suit learners’ needs.

“New flexi-job apprenticeships will not only help to deliver the skilled workforce needed to support a diverse range of sectors to grow, but they will create even more exciting opportunities for people to secure a great career.”

A total of 15 organisations have been approved by the Government to establish so-called flexi-job apprenticeship agencies, to recruit and employ apprentices and place them with businesses.
