Power restored to Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island after blackout

Electricity has been restored to about 34,000 properties on South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island, after a blackout hit the region this evening.

SA Power Networks said the cause was was "protection issue" at a the Willunga substation.

Power was out from about 5:45pm to 7:45pm.

Towns affected included Willunga, Victor Harbor, Goolwa, Port Elliot, Yankalilla and Kingscote on Kangaroo Island.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure warned motorists to exercise caution as traffic lights and pedestrian crossings are not working.

Almost all of South Australia's electricity is currently coming from gas, according to the NEMwatch website.

South Australia suffered a statewide blackout in 2016.
