Fletcher, Zampa dominate in Stars' big win

Andre Fletcher's hard-hitting 89 set the Melbourne Stars up for a big BBL win over Adelaide Strikers (AAP)

Andre Fletcher found form in brutal fashion with the bat before Adam Zampa and the Melbourne Stars' spin bowlers completed a happy MCG homecoming in a crushing 111-run BBL win over the Adelaide Strikers.

West Indian entertainer Fletcher belted an unbeaten 89 off 49 balls to lift the Stars to an imposing 2-179 on Friday night.

He smacked eight fours and four sixes in the process, turning the game the Stars' way after a slow start with the bat.

Stars captain Glenn Maxwell avoided the ignominy of a third consecutive golden duck, scoring 37 off 28, and chipped in with 2-12 from four overs as the Strikers were skittled for just 68 in reply.

Zampa claimed 5-17 in a destructive 20-ball contribution and Zahir Khan (2-19) was also influential.

The win in their first home game of the season drew the Stars level on points with third-placed Perth Scorchers, who have a game in hand, in a congested middle section of the table.

Fletcher provided most of the highlights and combined with Hilton Cartwright in a 77-run stand from 35 balls.

Fletcher hit 32 of the Stars' 33 runs in the power surge, enacted during the 17th and 18th overs.

Cartwright's late cameo then included a pair of massive sixes in an 18-run over off Wes Agar (0-46) that pushed the total well beyond 150.

The innings came to a close when Fletcher belted a Danny Briggs full toss over the rope and into the sight screen at long-on.

Maxwell opened the Stars' bowling and combined with Khan to remove Strikers openers Alex Carey (one) and Phil Salt (five) in the first power play to give the home side the upper hand.

Wickets fell at regular intervals as the Strikers fell well short of the bash boost point.

That Matt Renshaw top-scored for the Strikers with 20 off 23 balls only served to highlight the visitors' woes.
