Fleetwood Town want to sign Everton man who is out of contract this summer

Fleetwood Town want to sign Callum Connolly on a permanent deal once his Everton contract expires.

The 23-year-old yesterday confirmed that he would be leaving Goodison this summer, at the end of his deal.

Connolly made his first-team breakthrough five years ago, under Roberto Martinez, but was unable to pick up anymore senior appearances.

The Academy graduate has been sent on eight loans during his time with Everton, the most recent of which was with League One side Fleetwood this season.

Fleetwood boss Simon Grayson has made no secret of his hope that a deal can be agreed for Connolly to join his side permanently but he is unsure if it will happen.

"You look at Callum Connolly, for example, who is out of contract at Everton," Grayson told the Blackpool Gazette.

“He’s been the captain more or less since I’ve been at the football club.

“Would we like to sign him? Of course we would but it’s never easy because of other options that he might have available and financial decisions as well.

“We’re in the hands of players and other clubs.

“These things will take care of themselves over the next few weeks.”
