Fleetwood Town have appointed Uwe Rösler as the club’s head coach, following the resignation of Steven Pressley on Tuesday.

Rösler, who was sacked as Leeds United manager in October last year, has also coached Wigan Athletic and Brentford. The 47-year-old has agreed a two-year contract with the League One club, who finished 19th in the third-tier last season.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have an agreement in place and I am now really looking forward to starting work,” said Rösler, the former Manchester City forward, who will assume his duties as head coach on Monday.

“Fleetwood is a special club with a special recent history in the way they have grown the club and the facilities, as well as winning so many promotions to now be playing in League One. I had several options in the UK and abroad but I was waiting for an opportunity and challenge like this to come along.

“The discussions I had with the owner Andy Pilley and technical director Gretar Steinsson really impressed me and I feel I can put my stamp on Fleetwood Town. I am very ambitious and I know the owner is too, we all want to be successful here together.”
