Fleetwood Mac have enjoyed a spike in sales after a TikTok video that used a clip of the band’s song, “Dreams”, went viral.
The video in question showed a middle-aged man – TikTok user @420doggface208 – in a hoodie skating down a highway while drinking from a bottle of cranberry juice, soundtracked by “Dreams”.
At one point, he also lip-syncs to Stevie Nicks’ lead vocal.
The soothing nature of the video led to it being shared widely by fellow TikTok users and across other social media platforms.
“I will never be as cool as this guy, skateboarding, drinking juice straight out of the bottle, and vibing to Fleetwood Mac,” one viewer tweeted, in a post that received more than 40,000 likes.
The video also prompted a spike in streams and sales of the featured song. Billboard reports that for the three-day period of 25-27 September, the song received 2.9 million on-demand streams (up 88.7 per cent) and a further 3,000 (up 374 per cent) in digital download sales.
“Dreams”, taken from Fleetwood Mac’s album Rumours, previously enjoyed a bump in sales in 2018, after a meme of Alcorn State University’s Golden Girls dance team performing to the song went viral on Twitter.
Since its release in 1977, the track has remained one of the most consistently listened-to rock songs in the US.
It is also Fleetwood Mac’s only No 1 song in the US.
