Fleetwood Mac co-founder Peter Green has died

Fleetwood Mac co-founder Peter Green has died at the age of 73, it's been confirmed.

The band was formed in London in 1967 and was responsible massive hits like Albatross.

Green's death was announced via a statement from his solicitors, Swan Turton.

It said: "It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Green announce his death this weekend, peacefully in his sleep.

"A further statement will be provided in the coming days".

The London-born musician formed Fleetwood Mac with Mick Fleetwood.

The band was originally called Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac featuring Jeremy Spencer.

Born Peter Allen Greenbaum, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. His songs include Albatross, Black Magic Woman, Oh Well, The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown) and Man of the World and several have been adapted by a variety of musicians.

His brother, Michael, taught him his first guitar chords and by the age of 11 Green was teaching himself. He began playing professionally by the age of 15. He first played bass guitar in a band called Bobby Dennis and the Dominoes, which performed pop chart covers and rock 'n' roll standards, including Shadows covers.

Rolling Stone ranked Green at number 58 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
