Fleabag star Andrew Scott says his parents watch his steamy scenes with on-screen lover

Fleabag's Irish priest Andrew Scott said his parents watch his steamy scenes with his on-screen lover.

The 42-year-old actor has been the talk of the TV world since he took up the role of Fleabag’s love interest ‘The Sexy Priest’.

But the Dublin born star said he has been floored by the reaction to the hit BBC drama since it’s devastating ending this week.

Speaking to Zoe Ball during a chat on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show he said: “My parents watch it - I think it appeals to everyone, you can disguise a lot of humanity when it’s really funny. It’s people that people have really related, we’ve all had a broken heart at some stage!”

"I went out to the theatre the other night and people who had just seen it the night before and they were really devastated.

“It’s just very moving and, it’s extraordinary..but that’s what you want, you want that sort of reaction- you want it to have that sort of reaction like the one it’s had.”

Is Fleabag's Andrew Scott TV's sexiest priest? The challengers

“It really couldn’t be more exciting.”

Commenting on why he feels the series has resonated so deeply with viewers, Scott added: “It’s sort of been hailed as this great feminist story, which of course it is, but it’s actually, for my money, it’s really just about all human life.

“And the fact that we’re all a bit flawed and a bit messed up sometimes.

“But that doesn’t mean that we’re not all looking for love in different places right and wrong!”

The acclaimed series from creator and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge drew to a close on BBC Two on Monday night, with fans gripped to see how the titular misfit’s love story with Scott’s character would play out.

And Scott, who had acted in a play with Waller-Bridge almost a decade ago admitted he was drawn to the role from the outside, revealing he agreed to star in Fleabag without seeing a script.

He said: “She called me last summer to talk about Fleabag but there wasn’t any script at that stage and we had this fantastic first meeting where we talked about love and life and loss and everything, and religion, actually, and what place religion takes in our own lives.

“At the end of the meeting, I hadn’t read any script or anything but I was like, ‘Yes! I’m on board for this’.”
