Phoebe Waller-Bridge has revealed the line the BBC made her cut from series two of her comedy Fleabag.
The show sees the writer and actor play a woman unsuccessfully trying to navigate her life in London, stumbling across disaster and misfortune at every turn.
Waller-Bridge spoke to press about the new episodes (via Digital Spy), describing a line that she was forced to cut from a scene where her character speaks to a priest (Andrew Scott), a man she’s trying to stifle her attraction to.
“Originally, the priest said he didn’t want to talk about his brother because his brother’s a c**t,” Waller-Bridge said. “And the BBC were like, ‘You can’t say c**t’ – all they said was they need an alternative.”
The final version now sees the priest reveal he no longer speaks to his brother because he is “a paedophile”.
Waller-Bridge added: “I was like, ‘You want an alternative? OK! I appreciate the irony here!’”
Fleabag series two episode one is available on BBC iPlayer now. The second episode is set to air at 22.35 on Monday, 11 March.
