Flawless 62 puts Darren Clarke in contention for first Champions Tour win

Darren Clarke shot a scintillating 10-under 62 today to sit at the top of the TimberTech Championship.

The Dungannon man is chasing a first victory on the Champions Tour and is currently two clear of the chasing pack on 13 under par in Boca Raton, Florida.

Opening his round with a birdie, Clarke made the turn in just 31 shots before three more birdies quickly followed on the 10th, 11th and 13th.

The 2011 Open champion then consolidated his score before eagling the par five 18th to card his lowest round to date on the Champions Tour.

Clarke, who twice shot 60 on the European Tour, has been in contention a number of times on the Champions Tour without crossing the finishing line.

But the 52-year-old looks to have given himself a great chance at an event where the likes of Jim Furyk, Robert Karlsson and defending champion Bernard Langer are still out on the course and in pursuit.
