Aug. 13--Flavour Cooking School in Forest Park is closing at the end of August, owner Denise Norton announced in an email to the school's customers.
"This decision, as you can imagine, has been made with a great deal of contemplation more than a little anguish," wrote Norton, whose message was also posted on the school's website. "I realize that this may seem like a drastic move to some of you, but despite our best efforts your wonderful support, the business has been struggling for some time now."
Norton then went to thank her customers, students and "the Flavour community." All classes will continue as scheduled through the end of August, according to Norton. Store hours will change to 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The business will be closed during evening class times.
Flavour will be selling merchandise and fixtures over the coming weeks, at "gradually discounted" prices. Existing gift cards will be honored for store merchandise only.
Flavour Cooking School opened in December 2003 in what a Tribune story described as a 1920's-era bank at 7401 W. Madison St.
"This is a very difficult time for us all, including my amazing staff," Norton wrote. "I'm certain you all know that I will greatly miss what we have shared together. ... This work is my life's calling, being able to share it with you has been a joy a privilege, and I hope that when you stop by, you will be sure to leave your contact information so that I can keep you posted about future endeavors."
