Flats evacuated in Salford as police respond to concern for welfare

Flats have been evacuated in Salford as police respond to reports of a concern for welfare.

Police and fire crews were scrambled to Hall Bank in Eccles at around 5pm this afternoon.

The road has been taped off outside a block of flats.

One woman who lived nearby tweeted: "Tactical aid in Eccles.

"Apparently near the canal. Fire. Police. And Apparently flats evacuated.

"It’s like opposite my house. Scary."

Photos from the scene showed riot police trying to enter a block of flats.

An eyewitness at the scene said he saw a number of roads shut.

Police were talking to a man in a block of flats, the eyewitness said.

A spokesman for GMP said they were first called to the scene due to concern for the welfare of a man there.

He said: "Fire crews and police are talking to one of the people in the flats there.

"It's a person in crisis. Some of the neighbouring residents have been asked to move from their flats."

He did not confirm whether any threats were made at the address.

A fire service spokeswoman said crews were sent to the scene at around 5pm.

She said firefighters were called to 'assist' police at the scene.
