Drug flat tinned up after complaints from neighbours

A flat at the centre of drug-dealing and anti-social behaviour was tinned up by police.

Nearby residents in Kensington had complained their lives were being made a misery by the activities taking place at the property.

Local officers obtained a closure order against the flat in Epstein Court, Coleridge Street.

In a post on its Facebook page, Merseyside Police said: "Local officers from Tuebrook police station worked alongside partner agencies to complete a closure order notice at a flat on Epstein Court, Coleridge Street.

"The occupants have been causing anti-social behaviour and involved in the supply of drugs.

"This result wouldn't have been possible without vigilant members of our community, whose information has helped towards the address being boarded up and closed."

Police can apply to the courts for a closure order, which leaves the offending property tinned or boarded up completely for a period of time.

This usually lasts around three months and is designed to deter nightmare tenants from returning and allow communities to settle down and return to normal, while the people responsible for causing trouble have to find somewhere else to live.

Closure orders also mean no-one can enter the flat or house concerned without permission of the court.

If you suspect criminal activity is taking place within your area, you can contact police via 101, Crimetoppers on 0800 555 111 or via social media.
