Man dies in flat blaze as fire crews find body

A man has died following a flat fire in Merseyside yesterday.

Emergency services were called to a property, a house converted into eight separate flats, on Hicks Road, Waterloo, to reports of a fire.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "During their search, firefighters discovered the body of a man at the property.

"First aid was carried out by firefighters and paramedics but sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene."

Land Rover mounts kerb and crashes into shop beam

A man was arrested after a car mounted the kerb and crashed into a shop support beam.

Police were called to the crash at 9am today after reports a Land Rover Discovery had smashed into a support beam on Wallasey Road.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "We were called at 9am today to reports a Land Rover Discovery had been in collision with a support beam underneath a shop on Wallasey Road. There are no reports of any injuries.

"A 25 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit. He is currently in custody."

Merseyrail worker headbutted by drunk yob in vicious attack

A drunken thug headbutted a Merseyrail staff member after being refused travel.

British Transport Police (BTP) officers investigating the assault at Liverpool's Moorfields station have released images of two people they wish to speak with in connection with the sickening assault.

A spokesperson said: "At 10pm on Sunday, November 7, two men were refused travel by a member of rail staff for being too intoxicated to travel.

"One of the men then headbutted the member of rail staff as he tended to an injured member of the public."
