Flat blaze forces police to cordon off road as firefighters tackle scene

Two people suffered smoke inhalation after a blaze at a first-floor flat this evening.

Firefighters were called to the premises in Anfield at 6.49pm and were on the scene in about five minutes.

The first-floor flat was above the One Stop Property Shop in Priory Road.

Three fire engines went to the scene of the blaze, which was in a first-floor bedroom of the two-storey property.

Crews used hose reel jets to fight the fire, which was largely extinguished by 8.15pm.

Next door flats were also checked in case the fire had spread.

Two people, suffering smoke inhalation, were assessed at the scene by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

One was taken to hospital for precautionary checks. There are not believed to be any further injuries.

Police were also called to the scene for traffic management purposes.
