FLASHBACK: Surfest's history in pictures

As the iconic Newcastle Surfest event is cancelled for 2021, here's a look back through Newcastle Herald's historical archive of the region's biggest surfing event.

Surfest has long been a part of summer in the city.

Theseries of international professional surfing contests which run from January to March on Merewether Beach have become an iconic part of the city's events calendar and a great showcase of what the region has to offer.
