High winds and heavy rainfall have lashed Western Australia's South West today as a strengthening northerly wind flow and a rain band hit the area ahead of a strong cold front.
Emergency crews in the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River have been working to clear away almost a dozen trees blocking roads, including a tree which caused an accident on Bussell Highway near Kudardup.
The shire's Markus Botte said floodwaters also damaged roads in the town of Margaret River.
"Just the sheer volume of water that came down exceeded the capacity of the drainage system," Mr Botte said.
"The storm was pretty intense."
Rainfall totals up to 70 millimetres have been recorded in the Margaret River area in the 24 hours to 9:00am this morning, and Bunbury recorded 44mm.
BOM said the immediate threat of severe weather and heavy rainfall had now passed for Perth, however winds were expected to increase again south-west of a line from Bunbury to Albany from early Tuesday morning.
Last month Perth posted its wettest June in six years and reached its June monthly rainfall average for the first time since 2012.
