'Taken over 25 years ago now. A break from football in the park. My son, aged three at the time, watches the tractor cut the grass. The park is Wavertree Playground in Liverpool, better known locally as "the Mystery".' Photograph: Micktrick
'This is the last photo taken of my father, John "Baddoh" Badham, who died less than an hour later from metastasised small-cell lung cancer on 19 March 2013. My mother, Barbara Badham, his wife of 42 years, holds his hand. The last words he heard were hers: "Wherever you're going, Johnny, I will follow. I will find you. I will find you."' 'Our very precious adopted daughter and a very happy mummy. After such a long wait for her it was great to show our daughter one of our favourite places in the country. She was suitably impressed!' Photograph: kjeb79
'Walberswick, July 1950 … I'm 18 months old and my precious father is 35. Even though he died 12 years ago this month, I still miss him every day.' Photograph: norfolkforrest
'My dad (in the centre) stands beside two comrades, identities unknown. Behind them is a wrecked Japanese plane. He died in 1984, when I was 13. I never saw this particular photograph until after his death – it was in a wallet that both he and his father had taken to war with them. It triggers a whole host of memories, all good and yet sad too.
'I'm interested in photography. Looking at my own photographs I realise that in some respects every photograph I take and process is influenced by this faded image: there's a tone and tint that I associate with "authenticity" and emotion. It's odd.' Photograph: yorktone
'On Christmas Day 2009, I took a walk up one of my favourite places in the Yorkshire Dales: Gunnerside Gill. I saw not a single person during the entire walk. On the way back down the valley I stopped and sat in the snow for about half an hour, waiting for the light for this shot. Afterwards, I walked back down to Gunnerside in the dark, under the moon. It was quite magical.' Photograph: gullwingphoto
'My dad travelled to meet his grandson – his first time out of his nursing home in many years. The moment was captured on a cameraphone.' Photograph: Hallsk
'My father spent seven months in the Middle East during the second world war and in the best tradition of the Diggers he had his picture taken with his nurse friend. Only recently have I found out the location.' Photograph: ajo1
This is me and my big brother Tom, stood by the sea at Whitsand Bay beach in Cornwall. I don't remember the photo being taken but I love it – the beach we were on I spent every summer on when I was younger so it brings back happy memories!' Photograph: icepops
'Epic view, spotted while travelling around in a VW 1979 campervan. The stars and reflections were incredible.' Photograph: theboseographer
