Flames rip through caravan parked near Liverpool dock

A blaze took hold of a caravan on a street close to Liverpool's docks last night.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended Blackstone Street in Vauxhall after flames ripped through the vehicle at around 8pm.

One person was treated at the scene and oxygen had to be administered.

Images showed several Merseyside Police vehicles at the site of the fire, on land off Great Howard Street.

This morning the force said, following initial enquiries, the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said crews were alerted to the blaze at 8.11pm and were on the scene within four minutes. Two fire engines attended.

A spokeswoman said: "On arrival crews found a caravan to be well alight. Firefighters used a high pressure hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

"Firefighters administered oxygen therapy to one person.

"Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service were also in attendance."

Fire crews left the scene at 9.10pm.

The incident came just hours after two people were rushed to hospital following a house fire in Oxton, Wirral.

Emergency services were called to Mather Road shortly after 4pm.

Fire crews quickly entered the home to tackle the fire but were forced to leave over fears the house had become unstable.

Those who had been inside the house had managed to escape the fire before crews arrived and were assessed at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital.
