Flames burst from house as fire breaks out on terraced street

A first floor window blew out as a fire took hold of a home in a terrifying fire on Saturday night.

Witnesses looked on in horror as flames burst from the property and the front door was ripped from its hinges as emergency services fought to get inside.

This morning the charred remains of a window frame lay twisted in the front garden as police watched over the devastated house.

Emergency services were called to Tuebrook last night, waking neighbours as Windsor Road was overwhelmed with blue flashing lights and the sound of sirens.

One woman told the ECHO that flames could be seen jumping from a first floor window before the pane blew out.

She said: "I have never seen anything like that. On the TV, yes, but not in real life."

Merseyside Police, the North West Ambulance Service and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service each sent patrols and crews to the incident, said to have reached its peak at around 11.30pm.

One witness said there was relief in the street after stretchers were seen being taken into the property only for them to later be removed without casualties.

Those who watched the 999 response believe no-one was at home at the time. The ECHO has contacted Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service for details about whether anyone was injured.

On Sunday morning the front door of the home lay on the ground outside the house alongside the wreckage of the first floor window frame.

The wall around where that window had once been fitted was blackened by fire damage.

Two Merseyside Police vehicles remained at the scene.

The Tuebrook blaze was one of two severe house fires in Liverpool on Saturday night, with emergency services also called to deal with a significant incident on Mentmore Crescent in Norris Green.
