Flames and smoke burst from house as brave fire crews tackle home engulfed by blaze

Flames and smoke burst from a house after a blaze broke out and engulfed a home in Anfield.

Fire crews and police were called to the property on Townsend Lane at around 2pm on Monday after witnesses saw smoke billowing from the roof.

Emergency services arrived at the scene just minutes later to find the three-storey home engulfed in flames.

Smoke was seen escaping through a window on the top floor of the house where crews were later seen spraying water from above.

A number of brave firefighters also entered the house in order to stop the fire from spreading further or to the houses next door.

Merseyside Police also helped at the scene, implementing road closures to keep drivers away from the area.

Cordons were put in place between Priory Road and Bishop Road with neighbours telling the ECHO that they were told to stay inside their homes.

In a statement, Merseyside Fire and Rescue said: ""Firefighters are currently in attendance at a property on Townsend Lane, Anfield.

"Crews were alerted at 2pm and on scene at 2.05pm. Five fire engines are currently in attendance as well as the combined platform ladder.

"On arrival crews found smoke issuing from a window of a three storey property.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have entered the property under rapid deployment to prevent further escalation.

"Merseyside Police are also in attendance. The incident is ongoing."

Later, a spokesperson for the fire service also confirmed that no one had to be rescued from the fire and there were no injuries.

Public transport was rerouted in the area to avoid the scene.
