Flamengo won for the third game in a row by beating visitors Fortaleza 2-1 thanks to a late goal from in-form striker Gabriel Barbosa on Saturday.

Everton Ribeiro scored after six minutes and Barbosa netted with three minutes remaining, with the visitors having replied through a Juninho penalty in the 14th.

The reigning Serie A champions have recovered since losing their first two games of the season and moved into second place with the win over a limited Fortaleza side.

The Rio club now have 14 points from eight matches behind Internacional on 16 points from seven.

Fortaleza sit in 10th place in the 20-team table with eight points from the same number of games.
