Flamengo manager makes remarkable Jordan Henderson claim after suffering Liverpool upset

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has been labelled the best midfielder in the world by Flamengo boss Jorge Jesus.

After watching the Reds man up close during the FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar, former Benfica and Sporting Lisbon boss Jesus has firmly made up his mind on the number 14.

He told CMTV: "Henderson is the best midfielder in the world in his position.

"(Jurgen Klopp) never sacks him, but the two offensive midfielders, (Naby Keita) and (Gini) Wijnaldum, sometimes are replaced.

"The others players are always the same."

Jesus has worked with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Nemanja Matic and ex-Chelsea man Ramires over the years, so has plenty of experience with leading defensive midfielders.

Henderson will hope to lift the Premier League title in May, with his side currently 13 points clear at the summit with a game in hand.

The 29-year-old has made 27 appearances for the Reds so far this season, scoring once.

He became the first Reds captain ever to lift the FIFA Club World Cup last month, ending a hugely impressive year for the midfielder and the club as a whole.

Henderson will hope to start in London on Saturday evening as the Reds take on Jose Mourinho's Tottenham in their second Premier League fixture of the New Year, having already beaten Sheffield United at Anfield.
