Flagship North Staffordshire dental centre sold to expanding national dental group

A 'flagship' North Staffordshire dental practice has been sold to an expanding national dental group.

Genesis Smiles Centre, in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, has been taken over by Dental Care Group as part of its national growth strategy.

The practice, which was set up in 2011, comprises of five well-equipped modern surgeries and an open plan waiting room.

It is a large provider of NHS dentistry and has recently introduced private treatments such as implants.

Previous owner Dr Shaam Shamsi decided to sell the business to pursue other interests within the industry – including providing mentoring and training courses to young dentists.

Dr Shamsi said: "Making the decision to depart from your practice is never an easy one especially when you are blessed with a team that becomes your family. It has been an absolute privilege working with such professional colleagues in my practice, they have all been amazing.

"What mattered most was to ensure the new owners would continue with that same ethos and mindset to support, develop and promote high quality dentistry. I found just that in Sanjay Shah and his highly efficient team at Dental Care Group."

Sanjay Shah, CEO of Dental Care Group, said: "We are proud to welcome Genesis Smiles Centre - our 30th practice - to Dental Care Group.

"I am really privileged to be working with such great people that enable us to achieve such fantastic milestones.

"A special thanks to our acquisitions, transactions and integrations teams who work with great energy and enthusiasm to bring our vision to reality. It has been an honour to work with Dr Shaam Shamsi during the transaction process who is an inspiration to us all in the profession, I can’t wait to learn even more from him.

"Genesis is a fantastic flagship NHS practice in Stoke-on-Trent and we cannot wait to work with the team here to build further upon their current success."

Steve O’Connor, business agent at Christie & Co, handled the sale.

He added: "Having unsuccessfully tried to sell via another dental agent, it was great to get the opportunity to work with Dr Shamsi on this transaction. Jonathan Watson and myself worked together on the sale, and we are pleased to have secured Dr Shamsi a fantastic result.

"Whilst the business structure was a little unusual compared to what we typically see, the legal work did not present any major obstacles and the sale was concluded in just three months from agreeing a deal."
