Hearing about album releases weeks or months in advance is starting to feel like an artifact from the distant past. Dr Dre only gave fans a six-day warning before he premiered new album Compton on Apple Music last week, and now it’s electronic musician FKA Twigs’s turn.
On Friday morning, Twigs suddenly put out new five-track EP M3LL155X, after announcing its release on social media on Thursday evening. The EP features two previous singles: Glass & Patron, which came out in March as part of this year’s YouTube’s Music Awards, and Figure 8, which DJ Zane Lowe premiered on his Beats 1 radio show on 3 August.
A 16-minute video accompanies the EP, too. Fans will recognise Twigs’s fake pregnancy belly and voguing backing dancers from the Glass & Patron video, but, elsewhere, this new video includes scenes in which Twigs is animated as a sex doll and runs through a dance routine wearing double denim. Artist and Rick Owens muse Michèle Lamy also features in the video’s opening sequence.
M3LL155X was released by Young Turks records.
