Queanbeyan-Palerang Mayor Tim Overall has revealed excavations for the new regional council precinct in Crawford Street, Queanbeyan have revealed an historic, brick-lined well, potentially close to 150 years old.

Mr Overall said the well-preserved, nine-metre-deep well was probably part of the Myers Aerated Water & Cordial Factory that stood on the site from 1874 until around 1950.

"I have recommended for this well to be protected and conserved as part of Queanbeyan's significant heritage and given its historic, aesthetic and technical significance," Mr Overall said.

"A report on how this can best be achieved will be presented to the next meeting of our Heritage Advisory Committee."
