Fixer-upper Scottish island cottage hits the market for £70k boasting a 'beautiful sea view'

If you're wanting to take on a project, then you may want to look at this cottage, currently on the market for 'offers in excess' of £70,000.

Situated on North Ronaldsay, the area is Orkney's most northerly island known for its historic lighthouse, migratory bird life and unusual breed of sheep.

According to Orkney.com, the island is "famed for its rare breed of seaweed-eating sheep. These hardy and colourful characters live almost entirely on the wild shoreline, feeding on a diet of seaweed.

"Their meat is highly prized by chefs for its uniquely gamely flavour and is exported across the country.

"But even at just three miles long and two miles wide, the island still has more to offer visitors keen to experience its distinct culture and traditions."

As well as boasting about the island itself - and its sheep - the listing boasts about it's "beautiful sea views" and although it's a fixer-upper, the Scottish cottage has a lot of potential with it being listed as an online viewing.

It comes with one bedroom and is perfect for cold evenings on the island as winter kicks in with a fireplace in the room. There is room in the kitchen for a breakfast table and the space itself has a lot of potential if you're starting from scratch.

It is on the market for £70k. (Parkhouse, North Ronaldsay, KW17 2BG.)

Some of its key features include an oil fired Rayburn range, UPVC framed double and wooden framed single glazed windows. It sits on a ground with a land measuring 2150 m2 with a separate garage and storage rooms which also has to have a bit of work done to them.

In the property description, Lows say: "Parkhouse is a one bedroom detached cottage enjoying a beautiful view across farmland with the sea in the distance.

"The property extends to 2150m² or thereby and includes a garage, traditional outbuildings and a large garden. An adjoining field, extending to 1.3ha (3.2 acres) is available by separation negotiation."

They add: "The island has a primary school and bird observatory and is linked to the Orkney mainland by a scheduled air service and ferry."

If interested, there is an adjoining field extending to 1.3ha (3.2 acres) or thereby is available by separate negotiation. This has a current guide price of £12,000 with entry available from January 2023.

Writing on Instagram about the property, cheapscottishhouses, who often show the latest properties across the country said: "This one bedroom island cottage is in lovely condition. It’s nice and bright and I love how white the inside is. It just shows how white paint can make such a difference!

It also comes with a garage. (Rightmove.)

"It sits on half of an acre but there’s a separate parcel of land (3.2acres) that can be bought with a guide price of 12k.

"The property also includes traditional outbuildings and a garage with an inspection pit which might suit a car enthusiast. And to finish it off there’s even a sea view!!"

Taking to the comments many people are keen to snap up the property for themselves as they shared their ideas.

One said: "Ooh it’s super!"

Another joked: "Mon, I'm done with civilisation."

"How about a property like this to lock yourself away and be creative" suggested a third tagging their friend.
