The NFC South is arguably the toughest division in the NFL — the Falcons, Panthers and Saints have each been championship contenders in recent years.
Atlanta finished 7-9 last season, second in the division to the Saints. The team missed the playoffs while New Orleans went on to lose a heartbreaker in the NFC Championship game. This year promises to be another difficult road for any team in the division to make the postseason.
According to FiveThirtyEight‘s 2019 season projections, the Falcons have just a 39 percent chance of making the playoffs and a 23 percent chance of winning the NFC South crown. They also project Atlanta to win only eight games in 2019.
New Orleans has the best odds for winning the NFC South, and the third best playoff odds of any team in the league.
The Panthers have a 38 percent chance of making the playoffs — just slightly worse odds than the Falcons. Meanwhile, the Buccaneers have just a 17 percent chance of making the postseason.
