Five Years Later, I Keep Returning to Jon Bon Jovi’s Christmas Tree – And It’s Still the Most Beautiful Lesson in Timeless Holiday Design

Jon Bon Jovi.

There's something about a red, green, and gold color palette that always evokes a sense of festivity. It's consistently favored among celebrities who look to curate a feeling of timelessness in their holiday decor, starting with Jon Bon Jovi.

The rock singer first shared his traditional Christmas tree back in 2020, and five years later, I still return to his post as a source of inspiration for my own home. Featuring sparkling red flowers (like these Poinsettias from Amazon) and gold and silver ornaments, Bon Jovi's tree is a lesson in timelessness.

As a celebrity style editor, I had the pleasure of writing about around 100 celebrity trees, many of which are spectacular displays that are daring in both their sheer size and audacious designs. While these are stunning to visualise, I can't help but love how Bon Jovi's tree keeps things simple. His traditonal Christmas decor feels replicable, which is rare but uniquely beautiful.

Shop the look

Jon Bon Jovi has set the blueprint for ageless Christmas decor, but as ever, I welcome more advice from the experts. This includes Tristan Sissons, the Christmas Buyer at Hillier, who says that, despite its agelessness, this color palette is on trend for 2025.

'For those who treasure timeless elegance, The 'Classic Christmas' aesthetic remains a go-to. Think indulgent, rich tones mixed through with greens and golds, with Christmas red taking centre stage. Decorations lean toward luxurious and tasteful, featuring bold traditional elements like bows, nutcrackers, and fruits.'

Alongside drawing inspiration from Bon Jovi, Tristan recommends opting for gold ribbons and a garland (like this one from Target) that works in harmony with red ornaments.

'A truly classic tree is defined by its ornaments, so look to glass baubles in deep reds and greens, paired with gold ribbons, with a traditional star or angel on top to bring the look together. Don’t forget garlands and wreaths woven through with elements of gold to create a refined finish that sparkles under candlelight, elevating the warmth and sophistication of your home.'

Will you (like me) be following Jon Bon Jovi's example this Christmas? I promise it will look just as good in five years' time, and maybe just another five beyond that.
