From Chorlton and Didsbury, to Prestwich and Whitefield - Greater Manchester is well-known for its bustling suburbs with bars and restaurants.
But one Tameside town is fast becoming the new place to be, with exciting openings alongside well-loved food and drink establishments.
'Destination Denton' is the moniker used by local MP Andrew Gwynne on Twitter to promote the town's hospitality industry, and the description is certainly not to be scoffed at.
Yusuf Ceyhan has opened three premises with business partner Levent Guleryuz in the past five years, and he says things have changed in Denton over that time.
The pair opened Istanbul Grill five years ago, followed by Los Amigos Tapas and the newly-opened Log Bar next door.
Yusuf said: "When we first opened we saw the potential, people staying in town. Then we opened the tapas restaurant and more people came into town.
"Gradually we have seen a difference. Five years ago it was a ghost town.
"Hopefully it will get busier. At the moment we've got limited seats, as soon as things are lifted it's going to bring a lot more life to the town."
While Yusuf spoke to the Manchester Evening News , he was having work carried out inside the Log Bar by Martin Jones.
The 40-year-old has lived in Denton all his life, and believes businesses like Yusuf and Levent's are making a difference to the town.
He said: "It's obviously bringing in more locals. Personally I think the big pubs are going down, but the smaller bars are taking over.
"It's just Denton to be fair. Everyone knows everyone. In here you don't get any trouble."
Any ideas of Denton becoming a boom town are not just anecdotal.
Research conducted by the Local Data Company and reported by the Financial Times found that Denton had the sharpest increase in independent businesses of any high street in Britain between March 23 last year and April 21 this year.
In that time, 27 new independent businesses opened in the town, and 13 closed.
One of those new businesses was the Bona Couple Café and Lounge on Manchester Road, which began serving deliveries last November before finally welcoming customers into the restaurant last month.
Owner Bora Kirgiz said: "I have friends in Denton and I couldn't see anything like our café here. This place was going so I decided to start my business.
"I think it's slowly picking up, especially after lockdown. People are changing their habits - they have been staying at home and it's going to take a bit of time.
"But we are happy with how it's going. As long as our customers are happy we are happy."
Next door to Bona Couple is Pink Ladies Dessert, another new business in the pandemic, which first opened last July.
Owner Hadis Hashemijazi said business was booming when the café first opened, but things have been quieter since this year's lockdown - and she admits that the competition from other premises could have had an impact.
She said: "I've still got all my regular customers coming in but it's not the same as before. Every day was so busy before, now Monday it's so quiet, I don't know why.
"It's a nice location - it's a busy location, with shops and the main road. Hopefully things will pick up again."
Along Manchester Road is Howard's Neighbourhood Bar, which first opened in 2019 before running as a deli during lockdown, and reopened as a bar on Friday (June 11).
Other businesses like The Post Room are focusing on fine dining and cocktails, while Crown Point Tavern - Denton's first micropub - has gained a loyal following for its craft beer selection.
Further down Stockport Road, Seasons Bakery proudly hangs its many awards on the wall for its prize sourdoughs and loaves, and it's businesses like these which are giving Denton its new reputation.
One resident, who didn't want to give his name, told the M.E.N. : "I've lived here for 39 years, it's quite a nice town.
"It's up and coming now - a lot better than it was 39 years ago."
But while the town is enjoying its exciting new era, there are still reminders that the hospitality sector has faced an uphill battle to survive during the pandemic.
Kay Hama has owned Denton Delights on Victoria Street for three years.
He said: "It was OK, but as with everywhere in the pandemic it has been slow, very slow.
"But at least we are open now. Our customers are happy that we are back, especially now they can sit in and enjoy."
Coun Allison Gwynne is Tameside councillor for Denton North East, the ward which includes the town centre.
She believes there is a 'real buzz' about town now - and other businesses like hair salons and nail bars should benefit, as clients will be preparing for more regular social occasions than previously in the last year.
That, Coun Gwynne says, could be crucial after businesses have fought to survive during the pandemic.
She said: "It's really lovely to be able to go out for an evening in Denton, you have got a real choice of where to eat and drink. There's something for everyone.
"There are well established restaurants that have been here for a long time that are great, and then there is this new breed of places coming in which are filling the gaps.
"I really feel for the businesses who have hung on. The support has been there, the council have done a great job getting it to people, but it's never a substitute for just getting out there and doing what you love."
