A five-year-old boy has tested positive for methamphetamine after he went trick-or-treating for Halloween.
Braylen Carwell from Ohio had a seizure and began shaking after he came home from collecting sweets.
He was unable to move his arms and his father rushed him to hospital.
“I was putting my socks on and then I started to shiver,” Braylen told WBNS.
“And then I couldn’t move my arm or my fingers. Until I got to the doctor’s and I was sitting for a little bit and then I could move my hand but not my fingers.”
As doctors ran tests on Braylen they found methamphetamine in his urine.
Braylan insists the only thing he put in his mouth before the seizure was a pair of novelty teeth.
The sweet in question along with the entire contents of his trick-or-treating bag have been sent to the laboratory to be tested.
Braylen’s parents, Julia Pence and Cambray Carwell, are both recovering drug addicts and believe the sweets he collected when trick-or-treating are to blame.
They said they are aware many people would suggest they were hiding something but insisted they had been sober for several years.
“I’m not covering up the truth. I’m just speaking the truth of what happened to my son, yesterday. Nobody in my family or [Braylen’s] dad’s family would drug my children,” Ms Pence said.
“It’s your duty to protect your children from everything. You can’t protect them from everything. You just have to be aware and do the best that you can,” she added.
After being treated Braylan was discharged within seven hours and allowed to return home.
