Five-year-old Hope is to cycle, scoot and skate in her two-mile fundraising challenge

A kind hearted five-year-old Croftfoot Primary pupil has come up with a wheelie great way of backing her school’s fundraising challenge for Clyde 1’s Cash for Kids.

Hope Kelly (right) will be taking to a local park on Sunday for a two-mile wheelathon to raise vital cash for the appeal.

Hope wanted to play her part in supporting Croftfoot Primary’s mission to be the school that raises the most funds in the west of Scotland in the Clyde 1 schools’ challenge.

She and mum Jennifer came up with the idea of the wheelathon, in which she will cover two miles of parkland on her bike with stabilisers and on her scooter, finishing on her roller boots.

Jennifer set up a Just Giving page with a £150 target; coupled with cash donations from family, friends and colleagues of Hope’s dad Gerard, the total smashed through the £200 barrier, with cash still coming in.

Primary Two pupil Hope was aged only two when she got her first bike, and rode it around the family’s Croftfoot house.

“She liked it right away,” said Jennifer. “She loves all things on wheels.”

Big-hearted Hope has also been offering to do odd jobs in exchange for a donation to her wheelathon fundraiser.

She did the dishes for her grandparents, and the schoolgirl turned waitress to serve her parents Jennifer and Gerard a slap-up Italian dinner, for which they tipped her handsomely.

“We are delighted with her,” said proud mum Jennifer.

“She is an incredible girl. She’s very kind and generous and always likes to help other people. And when she does, there’s always a fun element attached.”
