Five-year-old girl in hospital after suspected hit-and-run collision in Salford

A five-year-old girl is in hospital after a suspected hit-and-run collision.

It happened on Douglas Street in Higher Broughton, Salford.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene at around 4.35pm today - Thursday.

Greater Manchester Police said the vehicle collided with the girl.

Unconfirmed reports from the scene suggested it was a people carrier, but no description has been released as yet by the force.

Police confirmed 'the driver of the vehicle failed to stop at the scene'.

The girl, who has not been named, was taken to hospital, but police said her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

It's understood the collision happened at Douglas Street's junction with Hamilton Street, off Great Clowes Street.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

In a statement, GMP said: "At 4.35pm on Thursday, police were called to reports of a collision on Douglas Street, Salford.

"Officers attended and established that a vehicle had collided with a pedestrian.

"A five-year-old girl has been taken to hospital.

"Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

"The driver of the vehicle failed to stop at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
