Five-year-old disabled princess is 'happiest girl in the world' with new supportive bed

A five-year-old princess with cerebral palsy is the ‘happiest little girl in the world’ after receiving her new pretty pink profiling bed thanks to donations from generous fundraisers.

Sofia McCubbin, of Dalrymple, was in desperate need of a new supportive bed which unfortunately the NHS couldn’t fund as they only offered second-hand adult hospital beds.

A fundraiser was launched back in June to coin in the cash to get little Sofia — who was born 15 weeks premature — a brand new, colourful hospital bed which is more child friendly.

And now after receiving her regal princess bed, Sofia is counting sheep as she settles in for a comfortable night’s sleep.

Mum Melissa Berretti, 27, said the family will be ‘forever grateful’ to kind-hearted donators who chipped in to help get the bed.

She said: “Sofia is the happiest little girl in the world with her beautiful, comfy and — most importantly — safe new profiling bed.

“This bed has helped us so much already. With its profiling features it allows us to adjust the height of the bed when putting Sofia in and bringing Sofia out of it.

“As well as adjusting the position to allow Sofia the best sleeping position and with its padded side rails, we can feel assured that she’s safe.

“With its vinyl sides it allows Sofia to see out and not feel too enclosed.

“And not forgetting it’s beautiful pink colour it’s lovely and girly for our princess!

“We cannot thank everybody enough for their donations. If it wasn’t for people’s generosity we wouldn’t have been able to fund this alone.

“We’ll be forever grateful”.

Mum Melissa called on the help of others and launched the fundraiser after being told the NHS couldn’t fund a suitable child’s bed for Sofia.

She previously said: “It’s just a shame that the NHS don’t have the funding to provide these for kids because normal kids don’t have to go through this; they have the choice of beautiful beds but disabled kids are just chucked to the used stuff.

“They’ve got a hard enough life as it is without not being able to get nice things.”
