Five-year-old boy drowns in swimming pool at Marina

A five-year-old boy drowned at Anna Swimming Pool at the Marina beach in Chennai on Saturday.

The police said Hariharan, marketing executive with a private company in Thanjavur, had brought his family, including his son H. Anirudh Krishnan, 5, to the beach. After spending time in the beach, Hariharan and family went to the swimming pool to take bath.

While getting out of the swimming pool, the family members noticed that Anirudh, who was sitting in the chair, was missing. Immediately, the life guard entered the water and found Anirudh drowned. He was taken out of the swimming pool and was rushed to the Kasturiba Government Hospital, where the boy was pronounced brought dead.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said that a departmental inquiry has been ordered into the incident so that appropriate action was taken in this regard. In a statement, the Chief Minister condoled the death of the boy and announced a solatium of ₹3 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund.
