Five West Lothian primary schools to act as HUB schools for children of key workers

Five primary schools are acting as HUB schools for the children of key workers during the coronavirus crisis.

The HUB schools based across the county are catering for nearly 300 children of key workers including nurses and doctors.

The schools provide childcare Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm, with a hot lunch provided.

If you have no alternative childcare and are a critical worker, you can enrol your child by attending the school on the days you are required to work.

Parents can access the schools by filling in an online form to see if they qualify.

Rules for qualification are strict and children will only be accepted if there are no other options for alternative care arrangements.

The schools involved are Springfield Primary in Linlithgow, St Mary’s and Simpsons in Bathgate, and in Livingston Harrysmuir, St Ninian’s and Knightsridge.

In addition, Simply Play in Broxburn is acting as a HUB.

Most, though not all, provide space for children from nursery age up to S3.

Council staff are continuing to prepare around 1500 meals each day for schools.

All children entitled to free school meals (including all P1-P3) can collect a packed lunch and a breakfast cereal bar/cereal or pick up a takeaway hot meal at listed schools between 12pm and 1.30pm.

Locations include many primary schools and all 11 secondary schools.

In addition, the council and volunteer groups are delivering hot meals to those children who are unable to leave their homes, for example those with disabilities.

The list of schools is available on the council’s coronavirus help pages www.westlothian.gov.uk/coronavirus-schools
