Four viral spring clean hacks that will transform your home - costing just pennies

With lockdown rules on track to change again in a few days, it may be time to think about freshening up your home with a spring clean.

But it doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg to get your home sparkling - as these cleaning hacks show it can set you back for as little as two pence.

TikTok users have been sharing their super easy go-to ways for tackling all sorts of household problems, from getting rid of dandelion weeds in the garden to eradicating stubborn limescale on taps.

Here, home improvement experts Insulation Express have revealed four of the best viral spring cleaning hacks that will breathe life back into your home.

Rid your garden of dandelion weeds with vinegar

One TikTok video revealed that spraying white vinegar onto dandelion weeds will make them wither and turn brown, making it safe for you to remove the weed and cut your grass as normal.

Ensure the weather is dry for a few days before applying the vinegar, as rain could dilute the vinegar on the foliage, so it won't be as effective.

Also, sunshine speeds up the process of killing the vinegar-soaked weeds, the experts say.

Giving your oven racks a laundry detergent bath leaves them sparkling

This one takes time - but Insulation Express worked out this hack would not only clean those tough stains off your oven racks, it would cost just seven pence a go.

Add a cupful of detergent, (it works out at around 7p worth of a £4.00 leading brand of liquid detergent) and hot water, and leave it overnight. The dirt will wipe off easily after the mammoth soak.

The team tried it themselves after a TikTok user shared the cleaning hack – and it worked!

Cleaning your taps with a two pence piece lifts stubborn limescale

It’s time to dig out the coppers, as the next cleaning hack will cost you, literally, two pence.

The hack was originally shared on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group, after a fan found that wetting the coin and rubbing it on the metal fittings of your taps scratches away limescale without damaging the finish.

Get streak-free shower screens with car cleaner

Car glass cleaner is stronger and often contains a repellent - perfect in preventing a build-up of water stains, the experts say.

Using a car glass cleaner stops hard water stains from building up every week, making cleaning the screen a much easier and quicker task.

You can get your hands on a car glass cleaner for around £5.00.

The shower tip was originally shared on TikTok, receiving 204.7K likes.
