Five-vehicle accident on East Kilbride Expressway causing Christmas roads nightmare

Commuters on the East Kilbride Expressway are facing a Christmas nightmare today after a five-vehicle crash.

The incident is thought to have happened around 12pm, with a lorry and four cars involved.

Three of the cars and the lorry are currently blocking the carriageway headed towards East Kilbride, with one car on the hard shoulder.

One road user told us the incident happened at the High Blantyre junction.

Not wishing to be named, the motorist said: “This is going to cause havoc.

“If you’re coming from Strathclyde Park and heading to the Blantyre Technology Park exit, it’s right there.

“I was heading to Calderwood and had to come off at Blantyre to get there. The carriageway is gridlocked.”

A Sainsburys lorry and white BMW 3 Series appear to have been involved in the incident.

No information is yet available as to whether there are any injuries, and Traffic Scotland's website has no information yet.

Anyone with any information should contact Police Scotland on 101.
