Five tracks to hear this week (Nov 9-15)

Ariana Grande is somehow managing to keep up with her personal life in her music. Having named a song after her fiance Pete Davidson on her Sweetener album in August, now that they’ve broken up he’s referenced again in this week’s Thank U, Next, a smooth tribute to four of her exes.

There’s been a vintage feel to the output of King Princess, the first singer-songwriter to sign to Mark Ronson’s record label, to date. She gets more of a modern edge on her latest single, however, the unsubtly titled Pussy is God.

The Spice Girls were the most talked about girl group of this week, but the return of country music’s Pistol Annies is also cause for celebration. The southern fried girl power of this supergroup – Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley – can be heard on their first album in five years, Interstate Gospel.

Pop singer and Instagram star Madison Beer has been working with Charli XCX to follow up her debut EP from earlier this year. Hurts Like Hell is her slinky new single, out today.

Despite losing key member Tom Searle to cancer two years ago, Brighton hard rock band Architects are returning bigger than ever. A Wembley Arena show is in the diary for January and their intense new album, Holy Hell, is out today.
