Five tracks to hear this week (Feb 1-7)

Hozier continues to pave an appealing road towards his second album next month. His latest single, Almost (Sweet Music), sounds familiar but strange thanks to the mix of his soulful vocals and stuttering handclap rhythms.

We know about the solo and side-project work of Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys, but what about the drummer? Matt Helders has got together with Joe Carnall from another Sheffield band, Milburn, to form Good Cop Bad Cop. Their first song, Silk & Leather is a surprising piece of electropop.

Having landed a number one single with his Dave collaboration Funky Friday, London rapper Fredo will have high hopes for his debut album. Third Avenue is released today, including the hard-edged latest single Survival of the Fittest.

Five years since her debut, Nina Nesbitt releases her second album today. The Sun Will Come Up, The Seasons Will Change shows the Scot moving far from her early singer-songwriter fare towards sultry dance pop, as on the single Colder.

Rivers Cuomo is a busy man. Not only did he just release a surprise covers album by his band Weezer, he’s promised a proper Weezer album on March 1 and today he does the vocals for the latest single from UK dance duo Snakehips. The jaunty, summery Gucci Rock N Roller also features a rap from KYLE.
