Five things you should never do to your hair according to a hairdresser

A hairdresser took to social media to warn people what not to do with their hair.

Stylist Rachel Valentine (@rachelvictoriavalentine) posted a video on TikTok which has now amassed more than 1.9 million views giving her top tips from her profession. She captioned it: "5 things I would never do as a hairdresser."

In the short clip, Rachel said she saw people in other fields of work sharing their advice so thought she would join in. She said: "I haven't got any lif- saving advice but I will give you five things I wouldn't do as a hairdresser."

Rachel started off her list off by addressing what kind of shampoo to use. She said: "I would never use any supermarket shampoos or any 2-in-1 shampoos or hotel shampoos. Anything not professional."

She added: "Number two, I would never detangle my hair with any of these." She held up a selection of hairbrushes including a roller brush and two combs.

The hairdresser finished off the list as she said: "Number three, I would never tie my hair up wet. Number four, I would never not use a heat protector and number five, I would never shampoo once. I always shampoo twice."

In a second video she replied to a comment asking how best to detangle hair with many people thinking a comb would be best. The hairdresser said: "The reason that combs aren't good is because the teeth on a comb are really stiff. When you're trying to detangle your hair, first of all, if it gets caught too much you will get stress on your scalp."

Rachel added using a comb could also cause breakage if used on damaged hair. She suggested using a tangle teaser brush instead of a comb. She added: "They are designed for detangling. Combs aren't designed for that."
