Five things you may have missed in the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer

After the events of Loki caused mayhem in the multiverse, it appears that there's going to be even more carnage and excitement to come on Spider-Man: No Way Home, along with plenty of familiar faces reappearing.

Fans already knew that Stage 4 of the MCU would be branching out into alternate timelines and cinematic universes, but the trailer for Spidey's new adventure has brought back some infamous villains and heroes.

Not only this, but the new film will be using villains that we previously saw in the films that saw Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield playing the wall-crawler.

Aside from seeing Doc Ock (Alfred Molina) and Green Goblin's (Willen Dafoe) pumpkin bomb, there were some subtle hints about the other rogues that Spidey might have to face.

To begin with, it's worth recapping where Tom Holland's beloved character is as we head into the new film.

At the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Mysterio doctored footage to make it look like he was killed by Spider-Man when really, Quentin Beck died after being struck by a bullet from the drones that he ordered to attack in London.

However, the real shock happened in the post-credit scene when J. Jonah Jameson (played by J.K Simmons) appeared as the version of the character made famous in Sam Raimi's beloved Spider-Man trilogy.

Not content with that surprise, the show host of The Daily Bugle revealed to the world that Peter Parker is Spider-Man.

Wrongly blamed for Mysterio's death and with his identity now known around the world, Spider-Man: No Way Home sees Peter turn to Doctor Strange for help but as we all know, mayhem in the multiverse is about to unfold.

Here are a few things that you may not have noticed from the trailer at first glance...

Will we finally be seeing Mephisto?

Throughout the duration of WandaVision, fans were speculating that the iconic Marvel villain might make an appearance but those flames have only been fanned further by the new Spider-Man trailer.

After all, Doctor Strange does appear to be acting a little bit out of sorts, especially when he casts that spell that Wong advises him not to do. Could the Sorcerer Supreme not be who he's claiming to be?

There's also precedence in the comics for Peter Parker having to make a literal deal with the devil, as seen in the One More Day story arc.

Could this image below be hinting at more to come?

Another devil could make an appearance, Daredevil

During the scene when Peter is talking to the authorities, we get a very brief look at a man that's suited and holding documents.

Fans have speculated that this could be Matt Murdock, better known as Daredevil, the devil of Hells Kitchen.

Murdock is a lawyer, and since Spider-Man looks to be heading to court in this film, it's fair to assume that the beloved character could be making an appearance.

Having played the character for three seasons on the wonderful Netflix show, Charlie Cox would be an incredible addition to the MCU but like so many things, we have to wait and see.

Villain #1: The Lizard

It's very hard to make out but Peter is attacked and spooked by something that's lurking in this grim and grotesque setting.

It seems to be the Lizard AKA Dr Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans) who was the villain in The Amazing Spider-Man which starred Andrew Garfield as Spidey.

However, Connors also featured in the Tobey Maguire series, he was played by Dylan Baker, but never actually became the Lizard in those films.

Villains #2 and 3 - Electro and The Sandman

Jamie Foxx and Thomas Haden Church, step right up.

The Oscar-winning star of Ray has already confirmed his involvement in the film via a now-deleted Instagram post, but the return of The Sandman will definitely make Spidey's job more difficult.

Unlike The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it appears that Electro's bolts of electricity won't be blue, which is more akin to the comic-book version of the character.

The money shots

A pumpkin bomb that's quickly followed by that evil laugh. Those tentacles and Alfred Molina's superb delivery.

Oh yes, the best villains in the Sam Raimi era of Spider-Man, The Green Goblin and Doc Ock, are both back to inflict even more damage.

On this note, it's looking very likely that we're going to be getting some version of The Sinister Six, especially with all these villains appearing.

The big question though, is Dr Otto Octavius talking to Tom Holland's version of Spider-Man or someone else?

To be honest, our money is on Tobey Maguire popping up in this multiverse alongside Andrew Garfield.

Whatever happens, Spider-Man is going to need some help.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is released exclusively in cinemas on December 17.
