For women on the frow – that’s fashion speak for the front row – these are hard times. What they wear matters, with Anna Wintour routinely breaking servers all over the world by deviating from florals. However, for men on the womenswear frow – or Bro-frow as it appears to be at New York fashion week – this is evidently their chance to cut loose. Here are five style observations from New York’s finest.
Hair can be dyed
Seapunk green, like Chris Brown at Michael Costello’s AW15 show or blond, like Justin Bieber at the Fashion For Relief charity fashion show. NB This is merely an observation, as in, you can, not you should. In fact, probably don’t.
Glasses are cool
Shout out to Diddy for wearing spectacles on the frow. It’s a strong look. As for the Chris Brown who ironically went for rose-tinted glasses, we suggest looking to Larry David who once surmised: “You know who wears sunglasses inside? Blind people and assholes.”
Offending everyone is OK, apparently
Especially by wearing fur. Again, this is an observation, since Peta have already criticised Chris Brown for glamourising “ugly violence” – and not something we endorse. See also Marc Jacobs, who chose to carry his instead, presumably for fear of being seen.
Accessorise with a children and/or partner
Particularly helpful if, like most of the men in situ, you plan to play it safe. David Beckham appeared at the Victoria Beckham show in boring old head-to-toe black, but managed to create “a look” by accessorising with his four children. Who also wore black.
Anyone can go
Not strictly true, since all fashion show tickets are invite-only and the frow is as mystical and impenetrable as you’ve probably guessed – unless, that is, you are a famous pop singer like Justin Bieber, in which case you can usually swing a freebie. See also Chris Brown, Jay Z and Diddy all of whom are tenuously linked with the fashion industry yet have made multiple appearances over the years.
