1. Canberra Craft Beer and Cider Festival
It's a day fit for any beer and cider enthusiast wanting to enjoy a broad range of craft offerings. Featuring more than 40 exhibitors from around Australia, the Canberra Craft Beer and Cider Festival has opportunities to meet the brewers, enjoy beer-food matching and watch demonstrations by master brewers. There will be entertainment throughout the day, as well as food and a wide range of family-friendly activities. Saturday, from 11am to 2pm or from 3pm to 6pm. Mercure Canberra. 2. Harvest Morning at Lake George Winery
You enjoy drinking it, so why not help to make it? Join the team at Lake George Winery for a fun morning learning about vines and wines. Put on your gumboots and help harvest the grapes, then venture into the winery and learn what happens next. Taste the wine being made and, of course, do a little foot-stomping. The morning will end with a wine tasting and brunch at Westering Restaurant. Sunday, 9am. Tickets are $53.84 from Eventbrite.
3. The Great Haig Park Water Fight
This weekend, The Great Haig Park Water Fight is taking the humble backyard water fight up a level with sprinklers, bubbles, water pistols, sponges and a dunk tank. All you need to bring is yourself, some friends, a picnic, a towel and maybe your own water pistol. The Soul Defender will be playing music throughout the day and The Italian Place Providore & Bottega will have a pop-up stall offering a gourmet spread of goodies to add to your picnic. Keep an eye on the weather, though. If the temperature is below 23 degrees, the event will be postponed to next weekend. Saturday, from 12pm to 5pm. Haig Park. Free event but people are asked to register at Eventbrite.
4. Hellenic Festival
Go on a culinary trip around the world at the Hellenic Festival. With this year's National Multicultural Festival cancelled due to COVID, this mini-festival is the next best thing. Experience cultures from around the globe in this street food festival. There will be delicious food on offer as well as traditional dance, music and more. Saturday, from 10am to 11pm and Sunday, from 12pm to 5pm. Hellenic Club of Canberra. Free event.
5. Mahalia Barnes
Having been in and around music her entire life, Mahalia Barnes is no stranger to the stage. Her childhood was filled with a range of music from the likes of Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and, of course, her dad Jimmy Barnes. All of that shaped her powerhouse soul and blues vocals, which she brings to the Royal Hotel this weekend. Friday, 5.30pm and 8.30pm. Tickets from $43.90 from Oztix.
