Five things spotted in Man City training ahead of Crystal Palace

Manchester City trained on Thursday ahead of their Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium.

City trail Liverpool by 14 points and need three against the Eagles to keep the pressure on their rivals.

They face Manchester United on Sunday - the only team to take points away from Jurgen Klopp's men this season.

Pep Guardiola put the Blues through their paces during a training session on Thursday.

Here's five things we spotted from the session that was uploaded to Man City's YouTube:

Aymeric Laporte continues his road to recovery

Man City fans will be delighted to see Aymeric Laporte back on the training ground as the road to recovery continues. The Frenchman hasn't featured since suffering his injury against Brighton back in August but took part in the full intensity warm up drills.

His return will be a massive boost to Guardiola in the coming weeks given City's defensive struggles at times this season.

Leroy Sane was not involved with the main group suggesting he remains a few weeks behind Laporte in his rehabilitation.

The City squad were in great spirits during the session as they began their warm ups.

After some stretching, players were tasked with partnering up in a three - with the some players facing a punishment.

Eric Garcia, Phil Foden and Oleksandr Zinchenko were the odd ones out and all faced a friendly 'tunnel of doom'.

Ederson at his best

Ederson returned to the starting line up against Aston Villa after serving his suspension following a red card against Wolves at the end of December.

The Brazilian was rarely troubled during the 6-1 rout of the Villans but looked sharp as ever during the session.

He made a number of excellent reflex saves meaning Palace will have to at their very best to beat him at the weekend.

Nicolas Otamendi shows off his finishing

During the shooting drills, it wasn't Sergio Aguero or Gabriel Jesus that stole the show, but defender Nicolas Otamendi.

Aguero rattled a shot off the crossbar while Jesus put an easy chance wide before the Argentine centre-back coolly side footed a first time effort past Ederson.

It seems Otamendi has been watching Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino as he even added in a cheeky no look finish.

Key to victory revealed

City will be eager to avoid a repeat of last season when the Blues were stunned at home by Roy Hodgson's men.

Nevertheless, Guardiola's side have won their last four fixtures in all competitions.

During the session, City players heavily drilled crossing scenarios suggesting it will be more of the same this weekend.
